Type species: Dermacantha leonorae Thuy, 2013 (type by original designation).
Etymology: from Ancient Greek δέρμα (derma, skin) and ἄκανθα (acantha, thorn), in reference to the striking similarities in LAP morphology shared with Dermocoma.
